Paraguay-Borders and Roads
Border Crossing Information
- Visa (US and Canada)
- Vehicle title
It is possible to drive right on through at the Foz do Iguacu border, which would be a bad idea, as there are many police checks once you are inside. You will need to find migracion and aduana. Your passport will be stamped by migracion and aduana will issue a temporary vehicle import permit (tramite).
- Temporary vehicle import permit (tramite)
Migracion will give you an exit stamp, and aduana takes back the temporary vehicle permit. Argentina and Paraguay customs and immigration are co-located on the Argentina border just north of Asuncion.
Roads and Driving
Highway 7 from Foz do Iguacu is 300 km to Asuncion. It is an arrow straight, very busy, and two lane most of the way. Pavement is pretty good, rutted in spots by truck traffic. Posted speed limit is 80 kmh which is ignored by everyone. Trucks go slower (60-70 kmh) and most cars go faster. Watch out for silly passing, no one checks their mirrors before pulling out. The wide shoulders are used by small motorcycles, mopeds, horsedrawn carts and pedestrians.
Highway 7 is a toll road and only Paraguayan currency is accepted.
